PhD students:
90% of the students in the lab are funded by the faculty/department via demonstratorships and special fellowships given by the department. Unfortunately, these are only available for UK citizens or permanent residence. Thus if you are a:
- UK citizen or permanent resident:
You should take the following steps to apply for a PhD at the ABL
1) Send Tali an email at (t.sharot at ucl.ac.uk) to tell us a bit about yourself your experience and research interests.
2) If we think you would be a good fit, we will invite you to write a research proposal and submit an application. More useful information on the application process can be found on the PALS website. The deadline to submit an application is the 8th of January 2024.
3) To submit your application you should apply formally to UCL, indicating that you are applying for a position in the Experimental Psychology Research Department under the supervision of Prof Tali Sharot.
- NOT a UK citizen or permanent resident:
There are three ways to join the lab:
1) Apply directly to any of the funding opportunities listed in the table below under “any country”. If you get in, we would be delighted to discuss having you rotate in our lab. If the opportunity requires you to name a hosting lab in advance, please send us a request via email.
2) There are only three opportunities for funding that require you to go through us rather than apply directly: UCL-RES, UCL-China JRS and UBEL ESRC. For complex reasons, our lab only supports UBEL ESRC students. This is a very competitive fellowship. However, we have been successful in the past. If you are interested in being considered for the UBEL ESRC drop us a line with your CV and research interests. If your specifics fit the UCL-ESRC profile as we have come to know it, we will work to support your application.
3) If you have already secured funding (for example via your home country, such as a Fulbright scholarship) do drop us a line with your CV and research interests.
Note, we do not take self funded students.
